Here We Go!

Recently, I realized my passion for food and cooking! I found it is a great way to take a break from the stresses of high school and combine my technical side with my creative side. It may be a phase, though I hope it isn't, but I figure I will give this hobby a good try. So to document my meals and snacks, I will record recipes, thoughts, ideas, and things I have cooked for you to hopefully try out!

So I guess I'll just jump right in and begin with a really easy recipe. For my 14th birthday, the one thing I wanted was an ice cream maker. I got my wish and received the Cuisinart Ice-30 BC Ice Cream Maker (It is one of the best presents I have ever received...). If you are looking for your own ice cream machine, I highly recommend that model. It is quite easy to use, and doesnt require salt or ice. I absolutely love ice cream, and basically everything frozen. So, it makes sense for me to start this blog with my latest creation; homemade chocolate ice cream!

Ice cream can be really easy to make and require only a freezer and a few ingredients, but since I have a machine at my hands, I figure I should get some good use out of it. So here we go! Blog post numero uno.

Side tid-bit: I'm sure this recipe will work on almost any ice cream maker, just follow the instructions in the manual provided to meet its specific needs.

When I was little, I remember making chocolate ice-cream in our old, rinky-dink ice cream machine that got thrown away years ago. I instantly fell in love with the rich creamy texture and the flavor of the frozen treat. I had always wanted to try and re-create that taste and today, I succeeded! I chose possibly the most basic chocolate ice cream recipe because it has few ingredients and requires no eggs or heating (I tried a recipe once that required heating and it was a disaster, I've been scared to try it again, but I might tackle it soon). I think that sometimes, the simplest ideas are the best ones!

Here is the recipe list:

1          cup of unsweetened cocoa powder (I use the regular, but if you love dark chocolate, go for it!)
2/3       cup of granulated sugar (I use extra-fine to speed up the dissolving process but it is not necessary)
1/2       cup of brown sugar
1 1/2    cup whole milk
3 1/4    cup heavy cream
1          tablespoon of vanilla extract (Feel free to add a little more than suggested)

I think the directions couldn't be much simpler so I'll give you the quick version:

Stir together the sugars and cocoa powder. Once stirred, whisk the whole milk into the mixture until the sugars dissolve. Stir in the vanilla and heavy cream. Pour the mixture into your ice-cream maker of choice and follow the instructions of that specific one. If you are using the Cuisinart Ice-30 BC, turn the machine on after putting the freezer bowl inside, pour in the mixture and let it stir for about 30 minutes. I like to put the finished ice cream in the freezer for a little bit afterwards so it hardens up a bit.

Now if you are one of those people who tracks their calories here is the nutritional information about this ice cream treat!

1 serving- 1/2 a cup of ice cream
(per serving) 286 Calories, 22g fat, 23g carbs, 14g sat. fat, and 79mg chol.

So there you go! Whether it is a hot summer day, or you just need to get your chocolate fix on, try out this recipe and I assure that you will love it! Follow my blog for more recipes for desserts, snacks, breakfast, main courses and more!
